Emily's Garden

Emily lives in St Helens, Oregon, and has a lovely, mostly sunny yard. It started as most yards in the suburbs do, with 99.9% grass, a few arborvitaes and one (stunning) camellia!

With limited resources its been a waiting game and patience is not her virtue. We're on year three of the garden and are excited to be dividing and plants and filling in gaps. Every year there are more bees, butterflies, and birds in the garden and we couldn't be happier!

The Triangle

This area was 100% grass, featuring an ornamental maple. It's an odd bit of land that is largely public right-of-way. It is now a prairie in progress! I am currently solarizing a section to seed in this fall.

Rain Garden

The Rain Garden was a necessity to help manage water flow on the property. A lot of research, time and effort went into creating this feature. It's surrounded by native (and some non-native) plants, and is home to many types of native bees!

Rock Garden

The front yard is home to Emily's favorite bit of the garden, a rock garden and dry creek bed, Oregon Stone Crop and Richardson's Penstemon thrive here!

Native Hedge

To replace a sick cherry tree and old arborvitae, Emily started developing a multi-layer native, hedge. She is removing the arborvitae as more plants are added and start to fill in.
